Competition Times & Conduct

  • In fairness to other players, all players should make themselves conversant with the Rules of Golf and Local Rules and the penalties incurred for any breach of the same.
  • All players must report to the starter before hitting off.
  • In a handicap stroke event, one half handicap will be applied to the 9 holes, one third handicap to the 6 holes, one sixth handicap to the 3 holes and 1/18th to the single hole.
  • Player’s are required to enter their scores into the computer within 15 minutes upon completion of their round. When a Scratch Score event is conducted, the Match Committee requests Members to record their scratch score on the card. This will expedite the winding up of the competition.
  • All finals to be played over 18 holes. (With the exceptions of the J.H.Mostyn Shield and Cock of the Walk, which will be played over 36 holes)
  • A player competing in Match Play Competitions is not eligible to compete in any other competitions run in conjunction. Rule 33 (1)

Starting Times

  • No unauthorised alteration shall be made to the Computer Time Sheet, except by the Pro Shop, Committee or player. Members will observe the booked times. If a member cannot keep to the booking, the Starter must be advised as soon as possible. Attention is drawn to the penalty provided by Rule 6-3.

Priority on the Course

  • Pairs, threesomes, and foursomes shall have precedence over and be entitled to pass any other kind of match. A single player has no standing and should give way to a match of any other kind. Any match playing a whole round is entitled to pass a match playing a shorter round. If a match fails to keep its place on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, it shall allow the match following to pass.

Non-Competition Days

  • Members intending to play on non-competition days are advised to check with the pro shop as there may be a Social Club booked in (members cannot infringe on times booked by Social Clubs). All players must report to the Starter before hitting off.

Trophy Donors

  • All Trophy Donors will be given 4 reserved places in the field, they will have no competition fees, and the Donor/s cannot win their own trophy.
  • On the day of a competition the names and times on the starting sheet become the time and order of starting.
  • Players unable to attend or be punctual must notify the starter in advance. Players late on the tee are in breach of Rule 6-3.
  • Rule 30.3a applies in 3 Ball Best Ball and 4 Ball Match play and Rule 31-2 applies in a 4 Ball Stroke play.
  • Players competing in Match Play events shall not be eligible to compete in ordinary competitions at the same time.
  • Before hitting off in any competition, each player must have his name entered in the computer or on a competition sheet and pay the prescribed fee to the starter.

Interruption of Play

  • Players may interrupt their play for refreshments after completing 9 holes, unless otherwise stated, but must not unduly delay play. A maximum of 6 minutes is allowed. If the 10th Tee is vacant, players must not stop at half way, they can purchase food and/or drinks to take with them. Players breaching this ruling, will be cautioned by the Course Marshals and repeat offenders will be disciplined by the Match Committee.
  • All players are expected to carry & use a sand bucket. A player should see that any turf cut or displaced is at once replaced and pressed down and/or divot filled with sand.
  • Players are requested to repair ball lob marks on greens and take and use their sand bucket for filling fairway divots.
  • Players should at all times play without delay. A groups position in the field is immediately behind the group in front.
  • Walk briskly between shots. At PAR 3’s use your discretion – do not call on if the next tee is vacant.
  • No player should play until the party in front is out of range.
  • No one should move or talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is making a stroke. (including partners) Ref. Rule 14-2
  • Players, while looking for a lost ball, should allow other matches coming up to pass them; they should signal to the players following them to pass, and having given such a signal, they should not continue their play until these players have passed and are out of range. (A ball is deemed “lost” if it is not found within 5 minutes – See Definitions in the Rules of Golf for full information)
  • Players should rake clean the bunker after playing from there.
  • Players should not damage the holes by standing close to them when the ground is soft, or when replacing the flagstick.
  • A player who has incurred a penalty should intimate the fact to his opponent as soon as possible.
  • Players are requested to pick up & immediately leave the green when the result of a hole has been determined when a hole is lost to par in par events or you can no longer score a point in stableford events.
  • It is requested that winners are in attendance for the presentation of Championship & Major Club events and donated trophies. Apologies should be made to the Duty Match official.
